About Cosmos Sudar
An independent, one-person newsroom reporting from the ground across Tamil Nadu.
Cosmos Sudar is an independent journalism project run by Thirumalaiselvan. There is no office, no proprietor, no advertising department and no political backer. There is one reporter, a vehicle, a camera, and a plan to cover Tamil Nadu constituency by constituency until all 234 have been documented.
Why this exists
Most of what happens in a district never reaches a newsroom. A tank being filled in, a bus route quietly withdrawn, a school with no teacher for a subject, a work order that does not match the road it paid for — none of it is dramatic enough to travel, and all of it decides how people actually live.
Big newsrooms cover the state from the capital. This one covers it from the road.
How the reporting is done
Every story here begins with going there. That means standing at the bus stop at 5.40 in the morning, counting the lorries that enter the dump yard, walking the length of the road, and talking to the people who have to live with the result. Where documents exist, they are obtained — usually through the Right to Information Act — and read alongside what is visible on the ground.
Where the two disagree, that disagreement is the story.
What you can expect
- Ground reports — what is actually happening in a specific place, written after being in that place.
- Civic issues — water, waste, roads, transport, the ordinary machinery of a town.
- Environment — tanks, lakes, groundwater, trees, and the slow damage nobody files a case about.
- Politics — public money, contracts, promises made and promises measured.
- Explainers — how a system works, in language a person without a law degree can use.
What you will not find
No sponsored content. No paid features. No stories placed by a party, a candidate or a company. If a story ever involves someone who has supported this work in any way, that connection is stated inside the story itself.
Who pays for it
At present, nobody. This work is self-funded. If that ever changes — a grant, reader support, a fellowship — the source will be named publicly on this page before the first rupee is spent.
